Setting up Podcasting for Sermons
Learn how to publish your sermon podcast using Planning Center. This step-by-step guide covers feed setup, artwork, descriptions, and submitting to Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
Steps 1 and 2 walk you through preparing your podcast in Planning Center for platforms like Apple and Spotify, though the same setup principles apply to most other podcast providers.
Steps 3 and 4 explain how to update your feed on Apple Podcasts and Spotify, and these steps are relevant no matter where your podcast is hosted.
Step 1: Setup Your Feed (Planning Center):
- Go to Planning Center Publishing > Sermons > Settings
- Set the Format to “Podcast”
Scroll down to the “Formats” section and make sure the “Podcast” option is checked. - Update the Description
Example: "Welcome to the weekly sermon podcast of Valley Creek Church in Malvern, PA. To learn more, visit www.valleycreek.church." -
Update Your Podcast Artwork
Upload a square image (1,500 x 1,500 pixels) of your church’s logo. See below for Valley Creek’s as a reference. -
Review Other Details
Update your podcast’s title, category, email, etc. as needed.
Step 2: Get Your Feed Link (Planning Center):
Get Your Podcast Feed URL
Keep Planning Center Settings tab open. Scroll down to the Audio Podcast Settings section and so you have the Podcast Feed URL easily available to you — you’ll need it for both Spotify and Apple. See screenshot below for reference.
Step 3: Submit to Apple Podcasts
These instructions assume your sermons are already available on Apple Podcasts and that you simply need to update the RSS feed. If your sermons are not yet published on Apple Podcasts, please follow the steps outlined in this article →.
- Log in to Apple Podcasts Connect with your Apple ID (two-factor authentication may be required).
- Click on your podcast Show.
- At the top, find the RSS Feed field. Click Edit, paste the Podcast Feed URL from Planning Center, and click Save.
- Finally, click Save again in the upper right to confirm the change.
Note: Apple moderates all submissions - if you're creating a new account you will have to wait until you receive an email letting you know that you have been approved. It can take up to 10 days, but is usually much quicker than that. Updates to the RSS feed takes up to 24 hours.
Step 4: Submit to Spotify
-
Log in to Spotify for Podcasters.
-
In the left menu, go to Settings.
-
Update podcast details (church name, etc.).
-
Under Licensor / Hosting Provider (see screenshot), click “Update” and paste your Podcast Feed URL from Planning Center.
